Recently Completed: Route 620 (Dunbrooke Road) Bridge Replacement Project

This project replaced the structurally deficient bridge over Piscataway Creek on Route 620 (Dunbrooke Road) in Essex County. The bridge is located between Route 642 (Purkins Road) and Route 622 (Latanes Mill Road).

The new bridge opened to traffic in September 2020. 

Built in 1962, the previous steel beam and timber deck structure had a weight restriction of 3 tons for all vehicle types. The new bridge does not have a posted weight restriction, and the 40-foot-long concrete single slab bridge has concrete abutments and wingwalls.  

Benefits 

The $1.6 million project almost doubled the length of the current crossing, providing a smoother travel surface and removed the vehicle weight limit posting on the previous bridge.
